Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Vegetables
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 large onion, sliced into rings
- 2 bell peppers (red, green, or yellow), thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
- 1 tbsp garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated (optional for extra flavor)
Sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch (to thicken the sauce)
- 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper (adjust to taste)
For Sizzling Effect
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for the sizzling effect)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, cornstarch, and crushed black pepper. Stir well until the sugar dissolves and the cornstarch is fully incorporated. Set the sauce aside.
- Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until it is just cooked through and browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Stir-Fry Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened but still crisp.
- Combine Beef and Sauce: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over everything, tossing until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the beef and vegetables. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes to blend flavors.
- Serve: For the sizzling effect, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a cast-iron skillet or a sizzling plate over high heat until very hot. Carefully transfer the stir-fry mixture onto the sizzling plate and serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.
