Description

The Pizza Burger Pie combines the best of two comfort foods into one delicious dish. Ground beef seasoned with Italian herbs and pizza sauce is baked inside a flaky biscuit crust, topped with melted mozzarella, pepperoni, and Parmesan cheese. Perfect for a family-friendly main course, this hearty casserole offers a fun twist on traditional pizza and burgers.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup pizza sauce

Crust & Toppings

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (about 8 biscuits)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil or cooking spray for greasing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pie Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish with olive oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the Meat Mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until the beef is fully browned and the onion is soft, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Season the Meat: Stir in the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and pizza sauce. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes to blend the flavors, then remove from heat.
  4. Form the Biscuit Crust: Press the refrigerated biscuit dough evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie dish, creating a crust to hold the filling.
  5. Assemble the Pie: Spread the meat mixture evenly over the biscuit crust. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top, then layer the pepperoni slices evenly. Finish by sprinkling the grated Parmesan cheese over everything.
  6. Bake the Pie: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the biscuit crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious pizza burger pie!

Notes

  • Customize your pie with favorite pizza toppings such as mushrooms, olives, or bell peppers for extra flavor and texture.
  • For a crispier biscuit crust, prebake the biscuit dough in the pie dish for 5 minutes before adding the filling and toppings.
  • To make a lighter version of this dish, substitute ground turkey for the ground beef.
