Description

Honey Bun Brownies are a delicious twist on classic brownies, featuring a moist yellow cake mix base swirled with cinnamon sugar and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze. This easy-to-make dessert combines the warm flavors of cinnamon and brown sugar with a luscious glaze, creating an indulgent treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil

Cinnamon Sugar Swirl

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oven and pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan to prevent the brownies from sticking.
  2. Mix the batter: In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, eggs, sour cream, and vegetable oil. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Prepare the cinnamon-sugar mixture: In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly mixed.
  4. Layer the batter and cinnamon sugar: Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over this layer.
  5. Add the remaining batter: Spoon the remaining batter on top of the cinnamon-sugar layer and carefully spread it to cover the entire surface.
  6. Create the swirl: Use a knife to gently swirl through the layers to create a marbled cinnamon effect throughout the batter.
  7. Bake the brownies: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Make the glaze: While the brownies are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
  9. Glaze the brownies: Once baked, allow the brownies to cool for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the brownies while they are still warm for best absorption.
  10. Cool and serve: Let the brownies cool completely before slicing into 12 squares and serving.

Notes

  • These brownies taste even better the next day as the flavors meld together.
  • For extra decadence, add chopped pecans to the cinnamon-sugar layer before adding the top batter.
  • You can also add a drizzle of honey to the glaze for a richer flavor.
