Description

This Homemade Peach Chutney is a delightful blend of fresh peaches, dried fruits, and warm spices, cooked to perfection with fruit pectin for a thick, flavorful condiment. Perfect as a topping for pork, ham, chicken, turkey, or as a dip and sandwich spread, it combines tangy, sweet, and spicy flavors for a versatile addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh peaches, peeled and diced (about 6–7 peaches)
  • 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/3 cup sweet onion, diced
  • 1 jar McCormick crystallized ginger (about 2 oz or 1/4 cup chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 7 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 pouch Certo liquid fruit pectin

Instructions

  1. Prepare the peaches: Peel and dice the fresh peaches, measuring out about 4 cups from 6–7 peaches. Set them aside for later use.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large pot, mix together the diced peaches, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, raisins, dried cranberries, diced sweet onion, crystallized ginger, sea salt, allspice, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground ginger, and granulated sugar. Do not add the pectin yet.
  3. Cook the chutney: Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil, stirring regularly to prevent sticking or scorching. Once boiling, continue to stir constantly for one minute to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
  4. Add pectin: Remove the pot from heat and immediately stir in the Certo liquid fruit pectin. Stir continuously for about five minutes as the chutney cools slightly. This helps it thicken properly and achieve the correct consistency.
  5. Serve or store: Serve the chutney at room temperature as a delicious topping for pork, ham, chicken, or turkey, or use it as a flavorful dip or sandwich spread.
  6. Storage: Transfer the chutney into airtight containers. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 4 months in a freezer-safe container. When ready to serve from frozen, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bring to room temperature by removing it 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to stir constantly once the mixture reaches a boil to avoid burning the sugar and fruit.
  • Using fresh, ripe peaches will yield the best flavor and natural sweetness.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar slightly if your peaches are very sweet or tart to balance the flavors.
  • Ensure the chutney cools slightly before bottling to prevent condensation inside storage containers.
  • This chutney pairs wonderfully with savory meats and can also enhance cheese platters.
