Description

This easy homemade Hoisin Sauce recipe combines savory soy sauce with creamy peanut butter, sweet honey, and aromatic spices to create a versatile Asian-inspired condiment. Perfect as a glaze, dipping sauce, or stir-fry base, this vegan and gluten-free adaptable sauce brings bold flavors to your dishes in just minutes without cooking.

Ingredients

Scale

Hoisin Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha or other hot sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, smooth peanut butter, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, Sriracha, garlic powder, black pepper, and Chinese five spice powder until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  2. Adjust Consistency and Taste: Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if desired. For a thinner sauce consistency, gradually whisk in 1–2 teaspoons of water until you reach your preferred texture.
  3. Use or Store: Use the hoisin sauce immediately as a glaze, dipping sauce, or stir-fry base. Alternatively, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari for soy sauce.
  • You can replace peanut butter with almond butter for a different nutty flavor or peanut allergy concerns.
  • This sauce works wonderfully as a glaze, dipping sauce, or stir-fry sauce.
  • Adjust the heat level by increasing or reducing the amount of Sriracha based on your spice preference.
