Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Seasoning
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, pounded thin
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Sandwich Fillings and Condiments
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
Bread and Extras
- 2 sandwich rolls or ciabatta buns
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for toasting buns)
- Lettuce and tomato slices for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Season the chicken: Pat the chicken breasts dry and season both sides evenly with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to enhance flavor.
- Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the pan and cook for 5–6 minutes on each side until thoroughly cooked through and lightly golden brown.
- Prepare the mustard-mayo spread: In a small bowl, combine the Dijon mustard and mayonnaise until smooth. This spread will add a creamy, tangy layer to the sandwich.
- Toast the buns: Slice the sandwich rolls or ciabatta buns in half. Optionally, spread butter on the cut sides and toast them in a skillet until golden brown for a crisp texture.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Spread the Dijon-mayo mixture on each side of the toasted buns. Place one cooked chicken breast on the bottom half of each bun, top with 2 slices of deli ham, and then add 2 slices of Swiss cheese over the ham.
- Melt the cheese and finish grilling: Close the sandwich with the top bun half and return it to the pan or use a grill press. Heat for 2–3 minutes to melt the Swiss cheese and warm everything through.
- Add fresh toppings and serve: If desired, add lettuce and tomato slices inside the sandwich before serving. Serve the sandwiches warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in Italian dressing for 30 minutes before grilling to infuse more taste and tenderness.
- You can use smoked ham in place of deli ham to create a deeper, smoky flavor.
- Turkey slices can be substituted for ham if preferred for a lighter option.
