Description

This Grilled Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich is a delicious and satisfying meal featuring tender grilled chicken breasts topped with melted Swiss cheese and savory deli ham, all served on toasted sandwich buns with a tangy Dijon-mayo sauce. Perfect for a hearty lunch or dinner, this American classic combines smoky grilled flavors with creamy, cheesy goodness.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Meat

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices deli ham

Cheese

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

Bread and Sauces

  • 2 sandwich buns
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

Seasonings and Oil

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional Toppings

  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill: Heat your grill to medium-high, ensuring it is ready for cooking the chicken breasts evenly.
  2. Prepare the chicken: Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness for uniform cooking. Brush both sides with olive oil, then season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste.
  3. Grill the chicken: Place chicken on the grill and cook for 5–6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  4. Add ham and cheese: One minute before the chicken is done, top each breast with 2 slices of deli ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese to allow them to melt beautifully on the grill.
  5. Toast the buns: While the chicken finishes grilling, toast the sandwich buns on the grill if desired for added texture and flavor.
  6. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, mix the Dijon mustard and mayonnaise until well combined to create a flavorful sandwich spread.
  7. Assemble the sandwich: Spread the Dijon-mayo sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Layer with the grilled chicken topped with ham and cheese, then add lettuce and tomato slices if using. Finish with the top bun and serve hot for the best taste.

Notes

  • Substitute provolone or mozzarella cheese for Swiss cheese for a different but equally delicious flavor.
  • You can swap deli ham for turkey if preferred.
  • Add extra flavor by including a pickle slice or a smear of honey mustard in the sandwich.
