Description

Glitter Popcorn is a fun and festive snack that combines crunchy popcorn with a sweet, buttery glaze and a sparkling edible glitter finish. Perfect for parties, movie nights, or any special occasion, this treat is easy to make and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn

  • 10 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)

Sweet Glaze

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Decoration

  • Edible glitter (for decoration, in any color you like)
  • Optional: colored sugar or sprinkles for extra flair

Instructions

  1. Pop the Popcorn: Pop the popcorn using a popcorn maker or stovetop method. Remove any unpopped kernels and measure out about 10 cups of popped popcorn. Place in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. Make the Sweet Glaze: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once fully melted, add the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
  3. Boil the Mixture: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and allow it to cook for 3-4 minutes without stirring, until it thickens slightly.
  4. Add Vanilla Extract: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract carefully, as the mixture may bubble up.
  5. Coat the Popcorn: Immediately pour the sweet glaze over the popped popcorn. Gently stir with a spatula or wooden spoon to coat the popcorn evenly. Work quickly before the glaze starts to set.
  6. Add the Glitter: Sprinkle edible glitter or shimmer powder evenly over the coated popcorn. Add as much or as little as you like, depending on the desired sparkle.
  7. Optional Decoration: For extra color and flair, sprinkle colored sugar or sprinkles over the popcorn if desired.
  8. Cool the Popcorn: Spread the coated popcorn on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet to cool and harden. The glaze will firm up as it cools.
  9. Serve: Once completely cooled and set, serve the glitter popcorn as a festive snack for parties or gatherings.

Notes

  • Ensure all unpopped kernels are removed to avoid choking hazards.
  • Work quickly when coating the popcorn as the glaze hardens fast.
  • Use edible glitter specifically designed for food to ensure safety.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container to maintain freshness and crunch.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a vegan butter alternative.
