Description

These Funnel Cake Bites are a delightful twist on the classic carnival treat, featuring bite-sized fried dough pieces dusted with powdered sugar. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside, they are easy to make at home and can be topped with whipped cream, fresh fruit, chocolate sauce, or caramel sauce for an irresistible dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons of butter, melted

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups of flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar

For Frying and Serving

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, fresh fruit, chocolate sauce, or caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the salt, baking soda, and sugar. Gradually fold in the flour, stirring continuously until the batter becomes smooth and free of lumps.
  3. Prepare the Batter Bag: Transfer the batter into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag. Seal the bag tightly and allow it to rest briefly while you heat the oil.
  4. Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat over medium heat. Test the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and float to the surface.
  5. Form and Fry the Bites: Cut a small hole in one corner of the Ziplock bag. Squeeze the batter out in small, bite-sized circles into the hot oil. Fry each batch for 1-2 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side until evenly browned.
  6. Drain and Serve: Remove the funnel cake bites with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm with optional toppings like whipped cream, fresh fruit, chocolate sauce, or caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to avoid greasy bites.
  • Cut the hole in the batter bag small to control the size of the funnel cake bites.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
  • You can experiment with various toppings such as cinnamon sugar or nuts.
