Description

Crescent Taco Bake is a delicious and easy-to-make casserole combining seasoned ground beef, creamy Velveeta cheese, and flaky crescent rolls. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a casual gathering, this dish layers savory taco flavors and melted cheese between golden baked crescent dough, served with your favorite taco toppings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 2 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 2 (1-oz) packages taco seasoning
  • 2 (10-oz) cans Rotel tomatoes, undrained

Other Ingredients

  • 1 (8-oz) package Velveeta cheese, sliced
  • 2 (8-oz) cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  • Cooking spray, for greasing pan

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375ºF to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook the Meat Mixture: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat. Return the meat to the skillet and add the taco seasoning along with the undrained Rotel tomatoes. Stir thoroughly and simmer the mixture for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  3. Assemble the Casserole: Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Press one can of crescent rolls evenly into the bottom of the pan to form the first dough layer. Spread the seasoned meat mixture evenly over the dough. Arrange the sliced Velveeta cheese evenly on top of the meat. Finally, cover the cheese layer with the second can of crescent rolls, pressing them to form the top crust.
  4. Bake: Place the assembled casserole into the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and thoroughly cooked.
  5. Add Toppings and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm topped with your favorite taco accompaniments such as sour cream, salsa, jalapeños, guacamole, and lettuce for added flavor and freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef for a leaner option.
  • Adjust taco seasoning quantity according to taste preference for spiciness.
  • Feel free to add extra toppings like shredded lettuce, olives, or diced onions.
  • Velveeta cheese provides creamy melting texture; cheddar cheese can be used, but texture will differ.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or microwave.
