Ingredients
Scale
For the Brownie Base
- 1 box brownie mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
Cream Cheese Layer
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping, thawed
Chocolate Pudding Layer
- 1 (3.9 oz) box instant chocolate pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
Toppings (Optional)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chocolate shavings
- Crushed nuts or sprinkles for topping
Instructions
- Prepare Brownies: Prepare and bake the brownies according to package instructions in a 9×13-inch pan. Allow them to cool completely before proceeding to the next step to ensure the layers set properly without melting.
- Make Cream Cheese Layer: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in half of the whipped topping to lighten the mixture. Spread this cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled brownies, creating the first creamy layer.
- Prepare Pudding Layer: In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk vigorously for 2 minutes until the pudding thickens. Spread this thickened pudding evenly over the cream cheese layer on the brownies.
- Add Whipped Topping: Evenly spread the remaining whipped topping on top of the pudding layer to create a fluffy, smooth finish.
- Decorate and Chill: Sprinkle chocolate chips, chocolate shavings, crushed nuts, or sprinkles over the whipped topping as desired. Cover the entire cake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to allow the layers to set and flavors to meld.
Notes
- Use homemade brownies or flavored pudding (such as mocha or peanut butter) for a personalized twist.
- Ensure brownies are completely cooled before layering to prevent the topping from melting.
- The cake is best served chilled and can be made a day ahead for convenience.
- Optional toppings add texture and flavor but can be omitted for a simpler dessert.
