Description

This Berry Tiramisu Trifle is a delightful no-bake dessert that layers fresh mixed berries, luscious mascarpone cream, and ladyfinger cookies soaked in juice. It’s a refreshing Italian-American treat perfect for summer or any occasion, offering a creamy texture with a burst of berry flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Berry Mixture

  • 1 pound fresh mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Mascarpone Cream

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Assembly

  • 1 package (7 ounces) ladyfinger cookies
  • 1/2 cup orange juice or berry juice (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Macarate the Berries: In a medium bowl, toss the mixed berries with granulated sugar and lemon juice. Let the mixture sit for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the berries to release their juices and soften.
  2. Whip the Cream: In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. This creates a light and airy texture essential for the mascarpone cream layer.
  3. Prepare Mascarpone Mixture: In a separate bowl, beat the softened mascarpone cheese together with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. This forms the rich base of the cream layer.
  4. Combine Cream and Mascarpone: Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated, keeping the blend light and fluffy to contrast with the tart berries.
  5. Assemble the Trifle: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the orange juice or berry juice just long enough to soak without becoming soggy. Layer them at the bottom of a trifle dish or a large glass bowl.
  6. Add Layers: Spread a layer of the mascarpone cream over the soaked ladyfingers, followed by a layer of macerated berries. Repeat these layers, finishing with a top layer of berries for a visually appealing finish.
  7. Chill: Cover the assembled trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set properly before serving.

Notes

  • This dessert can be prepared a day in advance and improves in flavor as it chills.
  • For adults, substitute the juice with berry liqueur or limoncello for an extra kick.
  • If ladyfinger cookies are unavailable, sponge cake makes a great substitute.
