Ingredients
Scale
Beef Marinade
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Other Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked white rice for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef: In a medium bowl, toss the thinly sliced flank steak with cornstarch until evenly coated. This step helps to tenderize the beef and creates a slight crust when cooking. Set aside.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, beef broth (or water), brown sugar, and red pepper flakes if using. This combination creates the flavorful stir-fry sauce.
- Cook the Beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef slices in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until nicely browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: In the same pan, add a splash of oil if needed, then add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- Cook Broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the pan and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the broccoli turns bright green and is slightly tender but still crisp.
- Combine and Finish: Return the beef to the pan with the broccoli. Pour in the prepared sauce, stirring well to coat all ingredients. Cook together for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the beef to fully cook. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli hot over cooked white rice for a delicious and balanced meal.
Notes
- You can substitute flank steak with skirt steak or sirloin depending on availability and preference.
- For extra tenderness, marinate the beef in soy sauce and cornstarch for 20 minutes before cooking.
- Add sliced bell peppers or snow peas for additional colorful vegetables and texture.
