Description

These Apple Pie Egg Rolls are a delicious and crispy dessert treat that combines the warm, spiced flavor of apple pie filling wrapped in a crunchy egg roll wrapper. Perfect for fall or any time you crave a sweet, fried indulgence, these egg rolls are easy to make and delightful to serve with optional powdered sugar dusting or caramel sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water

Egg Rolls

  • 10 egg roll wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple filling: In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes until the apples are soft and the mixture is bubbly.
  2. Thicken the filling: In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Stir it into the apple mixture and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the egg rolls: Place an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner facing you. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cooled apple filling onto the center. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll tightly. Seal the edge with a little water to ensure it sticks.
  4. Repeat assembly: Repeat the wrapping process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  5. Heat oil for frying: In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the egg rolls: Fry the egg rolls in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to turn them carefully.
  7. Drain and serve: Remove the fried egg rolls and drain on paper towels. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Serve these egg rolls with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream for a richer dessert experience.
  • To bake instead of fry, brush the egg rolls with melted butter and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 18 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even crispiness.
  • Make sure to seal the egg roll wrappers well to prevent filling leakage during frying.
  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture and flavor.
