Description

This Air Fryer Lemon Chicken recipe offers a flavorful, crispy chicken dish coated with a tangy lemon sauce. Utilizing an air fryer ensures a healthier alternative to traditional frying, producing tender, juicy chicken with a beautifully golden crust. Perfect for a quick 30-minute meal that serves 4, it’s a delightful blend of zesty lemon, savory soy sauce, and crispy chicken bites.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Coating

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

Sauce and Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • â…” cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, green parts only, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dredging Stations: Set up two shallow dishes: place the flour in one and the beaten eggs in the other to prepare for coating the chicken pieces.
  2. Marinate and Dredge Chicken: Toss the chicken pieces with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Coat each piece in flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and coat again in flour to create a crispy crust.
  3. Air Fry: Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the coated chicken pieces in a single layer inside the basket, spray the tops with cooking spray, and air fry for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  4. Make Lemon Sauce: While the chicken is cooking, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the lemon juice, sugar, chicken broth, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Whisk continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
  5. Toss and Serve: Once the chicken is cooked, pour the lemon sauce over it and toss to coat well. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately for a fresh, flavorful meal.

Notes

  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to control the salt content in the dish.
  • Make sure chicken pieces are cut uniformly for even cooking.
  • Shaking the air fryer basket halfway through cooking prevents sticking and promotes even browning.
  • If you prefer a spicier coating, add a pinch of chili flakes to the flour.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice or a crisp salad for a complete meal.
