Description

These adorable carrot-shaped chocolate covered strawberries are a delightful and festive treat perfect for spring celebrations or Easter. Plump, fresh strawberries are dipped in vibrant orange chocolate and decorated with green chocolate to mimic carrot tops, creating a fun and eye-catching dessert that’s as tasty as it is charming.

Ingredients

Scale

Strawberries

  • 2 lbs. fresh strawberries, rinsed and dried

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 (12 oz.) bag of orange chocolate melts (Wilton or preferred brand)
  • Green chocolate melts or candy melts for decorating carrot tops

Tools

  • Wax paper
  • Candy squeeze tube or zip-tight bag with a small snip in the corner

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: Gently rinse fresh strawberries under cool water and thoroughly dry them using a paper towel to ensure no moisture remains, which could prevent the chocolate from adhering properly.
  2. Melt the Chocolate: Place the orange chocolate melts in a microwave-safe bowl and melt them according to the package instructions, usually heating in 20-30 second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is completely smooth and creamy.
  3. Dip the Strawberries: Hold each strawberry by the green leaves and dip it fully into the melted orange chocolate, covering the fruit completely. Let any excess chocolate drip off to avoid clumps and place the dipped strawberries on wax paper.
  4. Shape the Carrot Tops: Allow the orange chocolate to set slightly but remain tacky. Then, using a candy squeeze tube or a zip-top bag with a small corner snip filled with green chocolate melts, pipe green “carrot top” designs onto the dipped strawberries to mimic the leafy tops of carrots.
  5. Let Them Set: Let the decorated strawberries sit at room temperature until the chocolate hardens. Alternatively, refrigerate them for 15-30 minutes to speed up the setting process before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to ensure chocolate adheres properly.
  • You can substitute the green chocolate melts with colored royal icing or edible markers for decorating carrot tops.
  • Store completed strawberries in the refrigerator and consume within 1-2 days for best freshness.
  • Use high-quality chocolate melts for a smoother finish and easier dipping experience.
  • Allow chocolate to cool slightly before dipping so it is not too hot, which could cause strawberries to break down.
